| "The Ergo 2000 fits in the natural hand position and is designed for easy maneuverability when making straight, round and scalloped cuts. All 16 pressure points of the hand are evenly distributed when using the Ergo 2000, thus requiring less pressure. An automatic spring loaded guard ensures safety; with just a flip of your finger you can open and close the guard." |

Dene: My thoughts on this rotary cutter were that I knew I would not like this cutter. Those thoughts have changed. I have used Olfa Rotary since they were on the market. I was quilting before the large rulers and rotary cutters were made so I just knew I would not like to change. I was wrong big time. I believe this is the best rotary cutter for your wrist and hand. It is easy to hold and I find I can cut longer, my hand never gets tired. Some features are: Comfort, Contoured Grip, Spring Loaded Guard.

Diane: I have carpel tunnel syndrome in my right hand so I can normally use a rotary cutter for only short periods of time. I had heard good things about this cutter but was skeptical, so for our testing purposes I cut all the strips and sub cuts for a twin size quilt in one afternoon without experiencing any pain in my wrist -- WOW! I’m sold. It did take a few minutes to get used to the opening & closing motions on the rotary cutter but soon was "buzzing" along. I have found two sources that both agree any brand rotary blades can be used in this rotary cutter which is a plus (early marketing stated that only Martelli blades should be used). There are many nice rotary cutters on the market and this is one you may be interested in purchasing if you have a condition in your hand, wrist, or arm which limits your ability to use a cutter for any length of time. In the past there has been a problem with the spring in this cutter but hopefully that has been fixed.

We have asked Teresa C. for a testimonial because she has used this rotary cutter for several years successfully. See her comments below:
The Martelli rotary cutter was recommended to me by some friends in the guild because I was complaining of pain at the base of my thumb after using the Olfa ones that I had for even a short period of time. I began using the Martelli 60mm cutter and was able to use it for extended periods of time with no thumb pain, yeah. Since that time, I have been diagnosed with arthritis in both thumbs (boo), so this cutter has been invaluable to me since I didn’t want to only be able to use a rotary cutter for short periods of time when I had a whole quilt to cut out.
There are some things that you should be aware of if you purchase this cutter however. It does take some getting used to as you hold it in your hand in a unique way. Once you get used to holding it that way, though, it’s a breeze to use. Also I did have an issue with the spring on the back coming off, but after contacting the company I was sent a replacement spring (tell them whether you have a right or left-handed cutter if it happens to you) and have had no more issues with the spring. I believe it was a wrong part used issue in their manufacturing process and I don’t know if they’ve fixed the problem or not. For me, the Martelli cutter was a great find because of the issue of the arthritis in my hands and I would recommend them.
