Blonnie: My review this month is on a product that I recommend to everyone. It is Mary Ellen’s Best Press. It replaces sizing and light spray starch. It sprays out clear with a nice pump and leaves no residue. The iron had a nice glide to it and I did not have to deal with the smell of aerosol since Best Press comes with a nice scent. The one I used was Lavender.
The effect of the nice smooth seam and no wrinkles left on the test fabrics resulted in the same effect for all three products except for the Best Press felt nice and soft and was still wrinkle free and nice seam. The sizing and starch left that stiff feeling. Plus the lavender scent was pleasant and I feel safer than the spray of the others. I will use it from now on.

Carla: I don’t know about you, but I remember reading Mary Ellen’s Helpful Hints on cleaning the house,
doing laundry, and keeping car tires nice and black. Of course, that was in my past life before I started making quilts. Her tips
were always were practical and thrifty so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered Mary Ellen’s Best Press spray
starch alternative. Before using this product, I had only used Magic Sizing and Faultless Spray Starch. Now that I’ve been
using Best Press for the past few months, it has become my preferred product for ironing and pressing fabric. Here’s why: it
gives a crisp finish to fabrics, leaves no residue, is acid free, is non-aerosol, and contains a stain guard. Most importantly,
there’s no flaking, clogging, or white residue, even on dark fabrics. There’s less or no over spray as you tend to get from
aerosol products as it comes in a pump spray plastic bottle. Best Press comes in various size bottles and large refill sizes are
available. I have only used the lavender but it comes in several scents, including unscented. Although it is more expensive than
the traditional spray starches and sizing, in my opinion, the benefits of Best Press are well worth the extra cost.
