Let's Go Crazy (Quilting)!
Crazy quilting is not really quilting, but a patchwork style which seems to have appeared in the Victorian era, but remains a popular quilt form. Crazy quilting is almost always done on a foundation of paper or fabric with overlapping odd-shaped fabric pieces. Crazy quilt blocks can use even very small scraps, and this form of quilting often incorporates fancy velvet, silk, and brocade scraps which might be unsuitable for other patchwork. Usually the seams between pieces and blocks are embellished with fancy embroidery stitches, and blocks are often further decorated with ribbons, lace, buttons, beads, or jewelry. Although many quilters embellish blocks with fine hand needlework, many sewing machines can replicate some of those fancy stitches. The links below offer more crazy quilt history, lessons, and foundations for crazy quilt blocks.
