About Heritage Quilters of Huntsville

Our History

Heritage Quilters of Huntsville was formed on June 18, 1987. Our charter year began with 88 active members. Current charter members are listed in our Directory with an asterisk (*) next to their names. We are now over 300 members strong, and growing. The Guild has members who represent all skill levels of quilting from the beginner to the highly skilled quilter.

Our Purpose

As a not-for-profit organization, our purpose is to stimulate an interest in quilts, promote and advance the art of quilt making, conduct educational programs, and share skills with one another in the design and techniques of quilt making. Membership is open to anyone that enjoys quilting.

Executive Board

Our guild is run by a Board that is made up of hard-working executive board and committee chair members. The names and phone numbers of the board members may be found in the newsletter and in the front of the Directory. These members work diligently to maintain and support a guild membership of approximately 300+ quilters.

Meetings

We meet the third Thursday of every month in the Fellowship Building at Faith Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Whitesburg Drive and Airport Road (5003 Whitesburg Dr.), in Huntsville, AL. Everyone is encouraged to arrive about 6:30 PM and to use the time from 6:30 to 7:00 to visit any of the tables and talk to members about various activities and projects, socialize with others, sign up for workshops, etc. Our program starts at 7:00 PM.

Handicap Access

Handicap parking and access to the Fellowship Building is on the Airport Road (north) side of the Fellowship Building. Since this back entrance is usually locked, please contact us before the meeting if you need to use the handicap entrance.

Inclement Weather Policy:

In the event of inclement weather the policy is: If Huntsville City Schools close early or are closed on the day of the regularly scheduled guild meeting, the meeting will be cancelled. A mass email will be sent to notify members. The president will contact the local television stations.

Programs

Our monthly programs consist of all aspects of quilting. The programs range from presentations by nationally known quilt artists to our own talented members. Some of the programs include hands-on activities. A popular portion of our monthly meeting is Show and Tell, where members share their latest quilted items.
